Those that were raised as Christians, were you trained/told to favor Israel?

I was not trained/told.

Growing up in the era where they were under attack, I never like 8 to 1 odds.

hehe, not indoctrinated/trained(those words are too loaded). There was the idea that the Jews were "God's" chosen people and that due to the promises made to Abraham that they would be protected. Was taught that those who opposed Israel would be cursed and those that supported Israel would be blessed. However, those latter sentiments came from outside sources, televangelists mainly, and not my family and/or local church. I have since rejected it all as self fulfilling "prophecy".

I never thought of it like that. I was always told that anyone that messes with them is going to lose anyway. That the aggressors were destined to lose.

Not that I was told that specifically in church re. fighting or war. However ,I remember being spoke to in a group as young as age 6. We were being reinforced on the subject in church.

My parents put me through Catholic schools all the way through high school because the public schools in the inner city sucked. Never in any religion class did they even mention Israel (except the Israel from 2000+ years ago)

We did however go over the zionist movement in regards to WWII in world history, but I wouldnt say there was any leaning for/against anyone.

I know that Muslims are trained to hate Jews.

I was taught according to God's Word to love my neighbors, whomever they may be. As for "supporting Israel," I've been taught by my government that I should support fellow DEMOCRACIES and allies of my nation. I support Israel for political reasons, not exclusively religious ones.

We were taught that Israel is God's chosen people, Gen. 12 God told Abraham that "all the nations of the earth will be blessed through you." We believe that this has already happened. Jesus was the offspring of Abraham, and through his redeeming work on the cross he has brought both Jew and Gentile near to God. Here ends the Sunday School lesson.

I dont like how people like to point the finger at the US in an attempt to say the US "picked sides" and is unfairly supporting one side over the other. Without US backing Israel would have been ganged up on by the rest of the middle east and the slaughter would have made the slaughter that caused the creation of Israel look like a picnic.

I know that Christians are trained to hate Muslims. Funny how Americans think Muslims are the only ones who can hate people. As a Muslim I actually support Israel, at least when it comes to their right to exist and self-defense, but I also feel that Christian Zionists use Israel to justify mass slaughter of Muslims in Iraq and elsewhere.

Raised Catholic and went to Catholic school from K-6 and I never was taught anything about Israel, positive or negative.

Edit - or Muslims for that matter.

The worst thing I remember concerning political indoctrination was a woman who came to our school to talk about abortions. I was in 3rd or 4th grade, she handed out little plastic fetuses, showed us some videos and some pictures which made some of my classmates cry.

Pretty low blow if you ask me, we were only 7 or 8 years old, this was around 1986-87, I can only imagine what it's like now.

Not true on the Muslims. There was no hate, but I would say there was silence concerning religions other than Christian and Jewish by and large. It would be more likely that Buddishm (sp?) or Sikhism ect would be studied when I was a child than the Muslim faith.

AND.. the question was were you , as a Christian taught to favor Israel. Predictably, somone couldn't wait 5 minutes before bringing other religions into it.

THIS is not about hating other religions.

The capacity to know that you were brainwashed and the ability to free oneself from it requires the death of everything one holds sacred, all ones beliefs and feelings rooted in ones personality as a accumulation over centuries. If you do not know that you know nothing at all then you do not know you know nothing. Only the empty and the dead are reborn.

If you want foolishness ask a fool why he is a fool.

I don't believe in Tabula Rasa, but thank you. I can see and think for myself and decide for myself. Past lessons are valuable and not to be discarded.

While I don?t have an organized religion, I?ll answer nonetheless.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I did not personally care about Israel until September 11th, now I believe they should wipe our common enemy off the map.

Now if Muslims jumped in and said the EXACT same things, but replace "christian" with "Muslim", would you object and insist that you know they are taught to hate Christians?

I never learned too much about Christians at all in terms of actual theology - they did come up when we distinguish points that God is God, and NOT a "triunion" god. I was actually surprised when I first learned as a child that Christians believe Jesus was God ;) "OMG...they take a man to be god??? HOWW" ;)
Its impossible to learn about the Prophet without knowing that Christian kings in Africa gave them save refuge for a time period - but at the same time the point that "God is God and nothing else" was emphasized repeatedly.
We learned about general ideas of Christianity, but never in a bad way. More in a "disagree" way, and not all that often.

With that said, before i studied religion more on my own, I could easily say that this holds true:
The average Muslim In America, including me at that time, understood the most general, basic, easy to grasp concepts of Christianity - whereas the average Christian knew squat about Muslims.
