Those Of You With PDAs/Palm Computers: What Do You Use Them For?

I've seen fold-up keyboards for these, and various other accessories. Do any of you really use them for serious work or for classes? What do you use them for, specifically, or do they only serve you as a glorified address book?

I use mine as a glorified address book for one thing. However, it's also very handy for keeping lists such as a weekend store visit list or for making memos to remind me of things I think of during the day. I'll write down prices of sale stuff I see in the store or gift ideas for later (even gift ideas for me for Christmas lists). I use it quite a bit to keep track of debit card purchases that I later enter into Quicken at home.

The biggest use, however, is Scrabble when I'm bored and waiting for something (meetings, appointments, etc.). :D

I only paid $100 for mine (Palm M505) so I think it was worth the cost.

I use my Blackberry as a phone, for wireless email, web access, contact management, and calendar. Oh and some notetaking. Nothing else compares.

3. Note taking (I could've used this in engineering - Civil Eng)
4. Mp3's
5. Movie/TV show viewer
6. Taking notes while in meetings at work
7. Organizing a list of foods I can/can't eat while on atkins
8. Recipe book
9. Reading Novels
10. Phone/Address/E-Mail Book
11. Daily Planner
12. Fantasy Football organization

and oodles of other useful applications

Compliments to the chef. Most stuff I've seen on here yet.

IMO PDA's are too small and frustrating for everyday use, they don't seem to do anything more useful than a cheap bic and a notepad.

i can see MP3's, but isn't getting an actual mp3 player a better value?

They seem like an expensive toy/novelty plus they make you look like a huge dork. *ring ring* excuse me while i talk into my huge PDA. When you can buy a cell phone that can take pics yet, for no more than $150.

And even on the expensive ones, i just dont have the screen space to get any usefull productivty out of it when i'm making spreadsheets or surfing the net, scrolling 10words at a time, with a stylus. Or only being able to plot out 4columns at a time, and have to scroll back and forth to check information that you've put in. Just fire up the laptop and do it in 1/2 the time.

I guess it's like a gameboy for adults, with all the games. I'm pretty sure calculator emulation is illegal anyway unless you have the actual calcuator anyway.

Aynone agree/disagree?

I use my Palm m515 for mostly games. Also use it for map, gas mileage recorder and picture viewer for digital camera.

I use my PEG-TJ37 for everything it can be used for, from the address book, scheduling, convenient camera (it really does come in handy), to do lists, calculator, you name it. Money well spent. Now if only I wasn't cheap enough to download the demo games and actually register them.

I will buy one then play around with it, then it will sit around for about a month, then I will sell it.

I have done this with about 3 or 4 PDAs.
