Seriously. I have a coworker who's a pro at this, but she has a rep for ducking out early and she's never not in her office so nobody is fooled.

OP, you are a lucky employee. You are given an office light that you can turn on/off? Not my employer. Hell, I am not even allowed an office telephone. And I only got hot running water in the bathroom after I threatened to contact OSHA. And yet the toilet paper roller still only discharges one square at a time (unless you have hacked it).

Why are you still working there?

1)All of our overhead office lights are LED with motion sensors.
2) Everyone has laptops,(that’s what people look for, not desk lights)
3) The modern equivalent is “working from home”. Just make sure you VPN in and have Skype on.

My office light turns off after 15 minutes of no movement, so I can't fool anyone

My cube is in our R&D lab so we just have those huge fluorescent lights. I have an under-mount light in my cube but I never use it because I sit against a window.

Sometimes when I come in in the morning (usually the first one there) the overhead lights are off so I keep them off. The dark "mood" is pretty nice in the morning and sometimes I'm tempted to turn them off on sunny days.

Yeah, the motion sensors won't turn the light off until I leave. Unless I sit very, very still for about half an hour.
