I live in New York City area, and I couldn't seem to track down a redesigned PS2 in any gamestop, ebgames, best buy, or circuit city. Looked like there were rare as hell.

Venturing into Times square, i went into the Toys R Us on a complete whim, turns out theyve got hundreds of redesigned PS2s.

I thought I'd share this info because it looks like a billion people are hitting up the regular gaming venues, and toys r us has the goods.

just FYI

Not that this has any relevance to the topic, but I've been looking for a non v1.6 xbox all day. I really messed up by not getting one before the holiday bundle was released. They took pretty much all the other ones off of the shelf. So far i've been to Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Gamestop, and 2 EBGames with no luck. None of the EB's/Gamestop had any refurbs/preowned left either which I was counting on.

What's so special about v1.6?

Generally if it was manufactured 3/18/2004 or after it will be a 1.6. All of the Holiday Bundle machines I have seen were manufactured in August 2004 therefore they are 1.6 and the Holiday Bundles is generally all they are stocking the retail stores Pretty much my only option is finding an older version preowned/refurb machine at EB/Gamespot but so far they've all been out of stock. For some reason I am thinking that Blockbuster might sell preowned consoles these days. Did I make that up?

Anything manufactured before March 2004. The cutoff is in mid April 2004, depending on the factory, so the best rule is to get one in March 2004 or earlier.

DOH!

You can also buy the PSTwo buy online at Amazon.com (via toysrus).

I was annoyed to see that it's a flip-top like PSX / PSOne though, so you can't stack it on a stereo rack unless you leave room for the top to open.
