its lee iacoca (sp?)....hes like the CEO of diamler chrysler...he was HUGE in the 80's...now hes just some old guy trying to revive his company image...but that was his tagline in the 80's...."If you can find a better car, buy it"

They must be catering to the older crowd, because I'm sure no one born after 1985 even knows that tagline, let alone who he is.

That could be what their intentions are. Chrysler is an older person's brand IMO.

Then there is Snoop in the commercial too so you might say that they are targetting both old and young with the commercials.

Thats the point. They got the Gen Xers with Jason Alexander, the young crowd with Snoo Dogg, and the older group gets snagged by Lee Ioccoa

Interesting:

Return to Chrysler
In July 2005, Iacocca returned to the airwaves as Chrysler's pitchman, along with stars such as Jason Alexander and Snoop Dogg, to promote Chrysler's Employee Pricing Plus program; the ads reprise the "If you can find a better car, buy it" line that was Iacocca's trademark in the 1980s. Other ads featured Iacocca with his granddaughter. In return for his services, Iacocca and DaimlerChrysler agreed that his fees plus a $1 donation per vehicle sold from July 1 through December 31, 2005, would be donated to the Iacocca Foundation for diabetes research.

I'd hardly say Lee doesn't fit the target market 300C anybody? and guess what it made him ask the question otherwise he might have put that one into information overload like most other car commercials. I think that may be a little of what they were going for there by pulling out an 80's icon.

The reason why he is important is Chrysler almost went bankrupt in the 80's and the K car POS that it was saved their arse. It was exaclty what it claimed to be a dirt cheap fairly reliable car with zero frills and they sold a crapload of them.
Gas was at its peak in 82 roughly 80-90 a barrel by todays standards and K car was good on gas North American car back when people still thought of country first when it came to getting a car.
He also secured a loan from the Fed to keep the machine going while they turned it around.
