Those in the computer industry: How did you get your first tech job?

Went in through a summer intern program. Company loved me and wanted me to stay, came on as a contractor and ended up switching over to salaried within a year.

First job I had out of school was a contract doing linux admin/coding...

Ever since I graduated I've lucked out in the sense that I've always had unix based jobs =)

Back when I was a teenager, I decided to take up consulting, so I started out by talking to the owner of a computer store and offered him a cut of the consulting jobs he sent my way. Worked out okay; this was a single store (not part of a chain) that sold primarily to businesses, so it wasn't hard to keep busy.

Drunk at a party. My friend at the times roommate asked me if I knew how to fix computers since he was having a problem. I fixed it that night and his other roommate just happened to work at a tech company and offered me a job after watching me drunkenly fix a PC correctly.

Got an internship during highschool working in IT at a local company. My dad worked there and found out they were looking for temporary IT help due to tons of new people coming in, and I called the IT director and I knew how to do what they wanted from me.
