Pity they are not dual channel like the asus box. Anyways I would go with the asus version (which I have one running ubuntu 14.04 (linux)). The crhomebox is $166 + $10 rebate; so $10 more but for $20 you can add another stick of ram if you want 4GB; it will cost you $40 to bring the hp box up to 4GB.

newegg was throwing in $20 gift card on the chromebox no clue if it is still available.

The storage is standard msata card; no real hacking; you open it up add ram and can replace the storage if needed. Covnersely it has 4 usb slots AND sd slot so you can use a usb or sd card for storage if you want. Ton of folks are using these for xmbc (linux based):

What? These are most certainly not in the same category as the Chinese ~70 dollar tablet shovelware.

I have the Asus Chromebox, same CPU and RAM. And its one peppy little box. Boot instantly, browses the web without a hiccup, streams Netflix easily, and handles Google Docs like a champ.

I've personally worked on multiple hp chrome boxes all were a joke.

For knowledgeable, experienced computer users these may be ok or even better if you stick Ubuntu in it but for the other 99.9% of the world I highly recommend staying away.

So your problem is with ChromeOS and not with HP or the hardware? I'm curious why you think HP chromeboxes are a joke.

You can often get a Chromebook with the same hardware for the same price. I paid about that for my HP Chromebook 14.

For those naysayers, I feel the hardware is great. 10 hours+ of battery life, runs Hearthstone butter smooth through WINE.
