Those going Z77. What Brand?

What brand Z77 are you going?

  • Asus

  • Biostar

  • EVGA

  • Gigabyte

  • MSI

Should have one for 'Undecided'. Next build is going to be a mitx so probably the Asus model since it looks best on paper so far. Not many choices yet though so hard to say. Plus none of the z77 mitx mobos are out and tested so I can't say for sure. I'll say leaning towards Asus.
 
I'm waiting for some reviews to go up before making my decision..

Historically, I'd go Asus or Gigabyte; I was leaning toward Gigabyte, but it seems the UD5H switched to a pair of Marvell controllers for extra SATA, and also a VIA chip for Firewire, which may cause problems.

A friend of mine has an Asus board with the Marvell controllers and he had a lot of issues getting hotswap working reliably on it. My mobo with JMicron controllers were pretty flawless. As well, my Firewire DAC recommends only using TI firewire controllers, so we'll see. :/

Unfortunately, even with mobo reviews, I have no idea on DPC latency, so that will be a shot in the dark.
 
Asus Sabertooth or ASRock, I haven't actually seen the ASRock z77 yet so I don't know which I'll be getting.
 
I picked Asus tho that may change by the time I order. This is mostly because I can at least see the specs of the boards on the Asus website. I might go with another brand if they have the few options I want at a lower price or offer something I want that the Asus model I'm looking at doesn't have.

Thanks for pointing this out. I just went and looked through their models, and I think I've dropped Asus down a few levels, if not ruled out entirely for me. I'm not seeing any of their boards supporting Firewire, nor list any Firewire headers. They also use Marvell SATA controllers, though some also use ASMedia.. I haven't heard of them before; I'll have to look them up.

FYI, Gigabyte has spec lists for their boards up as well.
 
Hopefully Asrock keeps their current pricing model.

I really hope Biostar releases a highend board this time around, they really need to get back into the game because they can make great boards at good prices.
 
Undecided. Will decide based on reviews, performance and overclocking is very important.

Most likely btw MSI GD80 or Gigabyte UD5H. Or if the Asus mobo is a lot better and not that much more expensive then Asus Z77 Deluxe
 
Whatever has VT-d. Gigabyte is getting outrageous with its naming schemes and releasing 800 motherboards per series. I think they'll implode and realize like HTC did that they need to consolidate their lineup.
 
I won't be buying one, but I'd say ASRock easily if they can keep up their reliability/quality, features, and pricing.

I'd say right now for Intel, ASRock is the best motherboard manufacturer.

with my Z68 being more than good enough to keep on using until Haswell on s1150 or perhaps swapping to s2011 in the mean time until whatever Haswell-E might be on, the only thing that might get me to switch would be something like ASUS' mini ITX board, that thing looks absolutely amazing.

Really the only problem there would be finding the right case. The Silverstone SG08 is right at the top of the list in that regard but I've heard that case (as its nearly identical to the SG07 on the inside) is harder to fit a closed loop water cooler into than say the SG05, which is odd because the 05 is actually smaller overall.
