can i use a normal video/right/left (the red-yellow-white) cable with these jacks? my tv and dvd player uses the component input and output, but i dont have the cables for it, so would it matter?

Technically yes, but there may be some quality degradation. The audio cables are not always 75-Ohm rated, like video cables are.

I believe you can, but a more experienced HT person might want to confirm.

well, i just used 3 yellow video cables i had lyin around. it works.

The yellow cable is 75 ohm coax, which is what component cables should be.

The red/white are not, but will generally work (though not technically correct).

It'll work, but if you aren't concerned about having "Monster Cable" quality, then you're fine. Not that Monster Cable necessarily implies anything but high prices.....
