dumb name isn't it? Oh well. Not very original. I think it might go w/ this entire nvidia/amd thing, "Oh lets buy a geforce fx with my athlon fx and my nforce 2." Oh well, I hope these things oc well.

Agreed. It's another B.S. "news" story from another unreliable source. :p

I got news from AMD two months ago, but it was under NDA. Apparently these sites aren't on the same mailing list as me or don't check their mail. All the Thorton is is a replacement for the Thoroughbred. How is it the "next Duron" when it has 256K L2 cache, data pre-fetch and SSE2 compatible instructions just like a Thorughbred?

People have already unknowingly received Thorton CPU's when they had ordered OEM Athlon XP CPU's from certain vendors. Why would AMD suddenly call it Athlon FX AFTER chips are already on the market as Athlon XP's?

I love the wealth of misinformation on the web these days.

You know what the next Duron is going to be? It's going to be the Athlon XP when the Athlon 64 comes out, that's what.

Thorton's are already being sold, but they're on stores shelves as just Athlon XP's because that's all they are. The only difference Joe Enduser would notice is the size of the die.

All of this hype over a CPU that was manufacturered because AMD discontinued a product before all of the orders were filled is crazy.

Matter of fact, I got an email today from AMD that said that they have already discontinued the 2000+ and 2200+ Thortons, probably because all of the orders that needed to be filled were filled. That means the only thing coming out of AMD's fab now should be Thorton 2600+ CPU's and Bartons. Now why would AMD affix a new name to a CPU they don't even make any more?
