LONDON (Reuters) - The children's hit television series Thomas the Tank Engine shows too many crashes and may be making children frightened of going on a train, according to a British psychologist.

The animated television series featuring the little steam engine's adventures, a hit in Britain for almost 20 years, has been broadcast in more than 130 countries.

Brian Young, a psychology lecturer at Britain's Exeter University, told the Times newspaper on Tuesday the large number of accidents in the programs could have a negative influence on children.

"Thomas the Tank Engine is aimed at a pre-school audience who tend to be more likely to see the program as a reality," said Young, an expert on how children react to TV programs.

This was my favorite show when I was 4 years old. I swear, if anyone had tried to stop me from watching it, I would have gone on a hunger strike. I'd like to think I turned out OK. I like trains too.

I watched it - I know other small kids that watched it, and if anything it gets them loving trains! not being scared of them! I don't believe it.

You gotta admit though, that Diesel was pretty scary :Q He was one bad train.

There is a railway museum in Illinois called Union Railway Museum. They have been having Thomas the Tank Engine day and it has been drawing huge crowds. The kids are not scared of trains, they ride them all day long.

I don't like the show just because the trains are always obsessing and stressing over getting all their work done. It reminds me of my job and I find it depressing. 😕

Umm, yeah..... because on thomas the Train they show him wrecking into things, and all the dead bodies bleeding all over the place. And sometimes they show him wrecking with toxic waste and destroying the environment, and this might damage the kids..

Err , wait... no they dont.... its CRASH! oh dear, what have i run into
