Count yourself lucky, it's pretty horrid...something that you'd see somewhere like LiveLeak. I had read the article about it on AP news only an hour or two after it was first posted, and did not even think about searching for a video of it. Only my morbid curiosity got me to click on it here...kinda wish I hadn't.

Police had of course tried to get everyone away from the tanker before it lit, and people didn't listen. It isn't simply that they're all thieves though IMO, as the petrol would be lost in the ground anyway. What is sad is that these people were so desperate that they were willing to risk their own safety and lives in order to get a small amount of a scarce and valuable resource there.

Vehicles aren't the only thing that they'll use gasoline for in Liberia.

That was a very kind and compassionate thing to do. Thank you.

It's no reason NOT to do it, but I immediately thought, "Will having an education allow her to find work and/or commodities in a country such as Liberia? Will she be better off when the scarcity of resources will likely continue? It might help her to realize that it's a highly dangerous act and not worth the risk though.

In any case, it's worth the donation. If you can make a difference like that in a young person's life who would otherwise not have the opportunity at a better future, that's an invaluable act and worth far more than the financial cost. IMO.
