I think you mean this would make diamonds relatively worthless.

the only reason the have what value they have now is because De Beers has done a good job of restricting the market. They were a monopoly for years and could not do business in the US because of that. diamonds aren't really as rare as you think they are.

ok mr. serious, but de beers could do all they wanted, things would change if we got to those 10 billion trillion trillion carats

Yeah the supply/demand argument is only valid if you accept the stupidity in people buying expensive rocks. The hilarity is that people eschew the 100% flawless man-made varieties for no rational reason.

Fun idea - have a bunch of mining ships tow the thing to Earth orbit.

Earth accelerates toward the massive object, and crashes into it, turning into a cloud of debris.

And there you go, you'd have a diamond with a ring. :)
