BTW all the avatars that are available now are butt ugly. They look like clip art on an 10 year old AOL member's "My First Web Page."
Do you really expect to be taken seriously? Constructive criticism is one thing, but you're nowhere near that ballpark.

Do I care if I'm taken seriously?

I don't even have it configured to show the avatars because they're such an eyesore, so it doesn't make a difference to me whether they're changed or not, I was just suggesting.

I learned something in my years as a bicycle mechanic: don't point out problems unless you've got a solution to offer. Can you point out some avatars that you think are an improvement?

Since there is an American flag, I think it should only be fair for there to be a Canadian flag as well

Great logic... so if notice a muffler hanging out of the back of a car, I shouldn't point that out unless I know how to fix it.

*sigh* I think I'm going to back out of the volatile "avatar argument" now...

edit: nm, going to bite my tongue ----> :p I like chocolate pudding, by the way! ;)

I think Aves2k has an awesome idea and a really nifty square "A" avatar there :D

To avoid the bandwith issue, why can't our custom avatars be hosted off-site? If we wanted to use one, then we'd have to host it ourselves. That way every time it loaded, it would look for the file on OUR server, and use our bandwith, rather than bog down the AT servers with tons of custom avatars.

The problem with custom avatars is that people will use big, ugly, animated, obnoxious, and / or porno images for their avatars. With 100,000+ users on these forums, the moderators would have a terrible time making sure everybody's avatar was acceptable.

IMO a avatar that looks like the anand A etc might lead people to assume the guy using it is a moderator or something.

OTOH any other countries' flags going to happen?

I think the AnandTech "A" ought to be reserved for the people enumerated by Aves2k for the reason you mention.

edit: and yes, more flags would be cool... speaking for myself, I don't recognize many countries' flags on sight, so it would be a good learning experience. I think the reason the American flag was added is partly that AnandTech is an American site, but mostly as a sign of solidarity in the face of 9/11. If Zuni wants some additional flag avatars cooked up, I could probably do a batch of them after I get out from under my FAQ update project.

Zuni said before that the bandwith used my the avatars is a non-issue.

I like the new ones that we were recently given, but I would still love a dragon!
