My dad needed to get rid of his Tundra to tow his boat + homeowner rules changed to not allow pickup trucks (?!?)...

He got a 1996 Bronco Eddie Bauer....stock a nice 210 or 205 something horsepower with the 351 Windsor it had.....but being built now is a 408 cubic inch deal :)....only about 425HP we are figuring (of course two tons to pull). :)

Only 210 out of a 351 Windsor? Wow. The 302 was putting out those numbers in '96. You sure it wasn't the 5.0 (302) in there? I didn't think Ford was still using the 351 in '96. Of course, it may well have carried on in the pickup line on which the Bronco was based. I'd have gone all-out and tried for a 460 myself, but I've got an un-natural fascination with the 460. :)

210 HP yeah...96....more torque though, 330 at 2800 rpms, I think the mustangs made 300 at close to 6k....

Regarding the 460....what manifold would you use? etc....parts are hard to come by...sure if around 400hp was your goal and a nice amount of torque....drop in a 460....for my dad's 1996 he'd just need to find a F250/350 and pull the engine and computer.

However his 408 will make equal power with about 50% better MPG....(the MPG is still miserable, but 50% is 50% :))....

not to mention better weight distribution, etc.....

If you really want torque drop in a diesel though. ;)

For a 460 swap, you'd need another tranny, too...different bolt pattern. And exhaust, engine mounts, prolly a driveshaft, etc etc. Fairly major engine swap. And yes, big drop in MPG :(

Stick with a Windsor engine ;)

Also, I dunno why this guy didn't just punch his 390 out to the 428 bore...just 4.05" to 4.13"....old 390 blocks would easily take an .080" overbore.

Being a 75 it probably didn't come with an old 390 :). Did they still use the 390 in 75? I thought they had switched over to the crappy 360 by then which was just a 390 block with a shorter throw crank and the same bore.

Fred,

From the looks of those seats in that truck, you've had one too many burritos from Taco Bell. :;
