this to hot?? q6600

SYSTEM:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775
MSI NX8800GTS 512M OC GeForce 8800GTS
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply - Retail

Well, i just checked my pc's vital in the bios after about an hour of installing drivers and updating the OS.

mobo 48 degrees with system fan at 1280 rpm per minute

cpu ***89*** degrees. Computer isnt over clocked at all. is this HOT? i mean this isnt even a full load. My mobo has a built in emergency shut off that you can set, and there are 5 priorities:

60 degrees
70
80
90
Disabled

now im running at 89 light load with the stock cpu cooler.... this concerns me. are my concerns warranted?

no question about it its hot i ran into this problem earlier too, you need to reseat the stock fan and also i have the same mobo if you are keeping the CPU at 2.4 adjust the, cpuvcore in the bios to this 1.1375 rather than the 1.3 something voltage it ranges too, i reseated along with this voltage decrease and in full with prime load i go as high as 58C.

I suggesst you do this now or soon those readings are worse than my initial attempt, and i was worried.

EDIT: when reseating the stock fan make sure you hear a click and all 4 pins are locked in the holes, the pins should stop at the white circular pastic when inserted in the holes , remember to press hard on all pins, and evenly

alright thanks... im pretty sure the hsf is fastened properly, doesnt hurt to try.. you think i should RMA it with newegg while i still can? to be safe?

How is your case cooling? do you have an appropriate rear fan pushing out? like 80-120mm fan? along with other fans that help provide airflow?
Quads generete alot of heat by default and unless you have cooling properties down effectively, those high temps are easily possible. So i think its a good idea to make sure you have set up proper cooling and recheck those temps to see if they normalize, rather than RMAing right away? If you have cooling factors set properly and idle is too high, RMA it is

EDIT: also about the hsf i also readjsuted the angle when i reseated, so that might have helped as well like the intel sign on top was facing down previously and now it is facing up

It is highly unlikely that you have a bad retail CPU. Double check that stock HS. Sometimes they look like they are on correctly, but they are not.

If you really do have a bad CPU, go buy a lottery ticket because you're beating some fairly long odds. 😉
