I have been able to keep my employers at bay with the seti thing I have going here. The admin has been very cool about it even when the "other" tech found out. Anyway we just had meeting and was told that we are getting a program called network observer. So we were told to make sure to have anything but "work" related software off the systems. So Monday morning I will be gutting my entire work fleet. I have kept them away from this as long as I could and now the big bad wolf has blown my house down! So that's it. GUTTED! I am going to go and cry now...... :(

Bummer! I'm very sorry for the loss of your work fleet! :( What will that leave you with at home?

I just checked Greg's latest weekly thread and you were doing great!

sorry, figured you might need to break a :) about now.

:( That sucks!

It's weird, they download all sorts of spyware/CPU hog apps at my work, except for a DC project. No, no... can't have that

Hehe... Yeah, I know what you mean. I've removed Gator, Offer Companion, Savenow, Hotbar, Kazaa (not Lite), Webshots, etc, etc, etc... Those are all valid work apps, right? ;)

Update - i still have to dump it all, but I was given a little more time. The software they are getting was delayed a few days and they are planning on building a server for it. This will all take place when the big boss gets back from vacation. So I should have until the end of next week and maybe through next weekend. We'll see. I am trying to keep this sinking ship afloat for as long as i can!

Something to ask the big Boss.

Spending money on a separate server and software to monitor and shut down traffic that has the potential of doing good for mankind in general, is that good in itself?

Naw, let's not have computers work for us humans when we're not using them, let's not use the potential of the Internet to it's fullest, let's not search for cures for Cancer.

See you know this, I know this, as well as everyone involved with DC. But we all know (you more than most) that the majority of the "people in charge" are total idiots! My work is full of them. It's just annoying. Heck we at one time talked about setting up IM for "better communication" so the head guy started looking at AIM and MSN messenger. I was like WTF? Look for a corporate solution dork! Anyway I am at the mercy of stupid people and can't do squat about it!

We have a network management server set up that does, uh, well, not a whole lot. So the obvious solution is to build a whole new server to put network observer on. Uh Right? LMAO! The company I work for is a joke in many cases!

Oh I forgot something else. The "head man" set up an intranet that is so clumbsy it makes me sick, but anyway we have had a lot of people complain that they are going to "reputable" web sites and getting pounded with pop up ads. So he has been looking for pop up blockers. I suggested installing Firebird or Mozilla since it is built in. He did not think it was a good idea becuase IE is the dominate web browser and his lovely little intranet was created in Front Page and there may be some things that wont look right. Sheesh, the idiocy I have to deal with on a daily basis boggles my mind!

Well the program came in today and he already has the server ready. He will be coming in Monday morning to finish the install, that way when he gets back from vacation he will have a whole lot of info to play with. I will be sinking the ship Monday morning. Glug Glug!

The only thing we could do is hang in there and hope that brains may prevail at some point someday and turn the tide.

The other thing we can do is put pressure on Companies such as Microsoft to put DC in the Screensaver Menu system.

Shawn, I feel your pain.

With Stupid BONIC coming out in a few months i'll be pushed
out of the fun as i hear they will not let Sneakernetting happen,
and i Sneakernet most of my computers. So i know how you feel.
4+ years down the drain for me. ( No emotion icon on how i feel).

Well it is done, I think I need to go somewhere nice and quiet and just be alone! Sinking my fleet was a tough job, but one by one I disabled the cli service. Grand total 14 Intel 1.8's and 15 2.2's! GUTTED! One the bright side I am close to touching the top 50 of the team. Sitting at 51 right now. I will still be doing 25-30 per day so all is not lost. Hopefully I will be able to convince them to let me start back up again.
