This thread title just popped out while I was taking shower: Predict the future of the world up to 2050

Pick an area you like: technology, nature, social area, you name it.

What do you think interesting will happen or what should we hope and live for to see. Please don't use one liners, I am interested in your opinions on the matter.

And the requisite second line is: I don't think we'll advance nearly as much as most think. Rather, we'll find something really different to develop and it will change the world, while everything else will slowly improve. (remember when they predicted cities on the moon by 1990, and flying cars by 2000? And that "640K is all anyone will ever need" turned into "256 MB minimum, 512 MB recommended")

It'll be something way out of left field.

We live happily till 2019, and then we get rocked by a large asteroid plunging the world into an age of destruction and despair.

First off, probably some sort of settlement on Mars. Under a dome of some sort to regulate atmosphere. I think we'll probably have implanted computers for identification and oher purposes. At least some sort of ident card that becomes our pocket computer, credit card, etc.

The science of gene splicing will be perfected, so parents can choose their child's attributes. AIDS still won't be cured, but someone will have developed a vaccine that allows you to live with it and thrive, as long as you keep taking the meds.

The PC will still be around, but probably not in its present form. Everything in the house will be a PC, for total climate, lighting, etc. control over your domain. There will probably still be some sort of a terminal that resembles our current setups, but PC gaming will have evolved into a virtual reality sport, so online multiplayer will be virtually dead.

There will still be war in the middle east. In fact, even if the world is destroyed in 2019 when the comet hits, the surviving single-cell organisms in the middle east will be at war with each other.

We will have been working on a long range spaceship to discover other worlds, but it will not be complete yet. We won't have gone any farther than Mars.

Dick Clark will still be hosting the rockin new years eve party. ATOT will be gone, and we'll all remember the good old days of neffing and heated religion arguments.

Other than that, we'll all have happy, healthy lives. Well, hopefully ;)

2009: Sadaam, being the dumbarse he is, Nukes our invading forces, The resulting trade of nukes leaves most the middle east more of a barren wasteland than it already was. Leaving us with a Huge energy Crisis.

2014: US government collapes, leading to a second civil war, Millions Die, in the end US is devided into 4-5 smaller contries. All bickering and fighting eachother constantly.

2019: Asteroid hits in the Pacific Ocean, The west coast, Japan, Hong Kong, and a good Chunk of Austraila are decimated.

2021: Canada Invades, Takes over the northern part of the Former US and restores a militarisitc calm to the region.

2025: The small country that consists of the former states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico Invade and Conquer Mexico for its natural resources.

2033: A Fenchman is the first person to walk on Mars.

2048: A Joint British, French and German Team Set up the first colony on mars.

ok so i have an over active imagination... but its fun to imagine ;):D

In 2050 I'll be 100 years old, but more than likely dead. The next couple a decades are for me to watch, and you to perform. Entertain me. I am grateful. :)

First of all, France becomes a major superpower after a series of successful military campaigns throughout Europe. FIAT is teh first to invent the car that never breaks down. Bush is deemed savior of the and declared King. The Cubs wina world series and ..

oh wait, things that WILL happen? er nm then.

This is exactly what will happen, except the asteroid will fall in the Atlantic, decimating the East Coast, etc.

In 2028 and 1/2 the cows arm themselves with advanced space weapons and proceed to take over the earth. Overnight every Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendys, and any other places that serve beef are destroyed. We are made the slaves of the cows and are forced to sit in pastures, mooing and chewing on grass.

By 2050 we'll be fighting our wars with androids that have good artificial intelligence. After a few years they realize they're just tools and rise up to fight their oppressors. Eventually mankind is wiped off of the face of the Earth (and all other planets). Fast forward another century, some androids realize they're mistake and try to bring the human race back. So they do and the androids use them as slaves. Humans rise up against the androids and basically you have a never ending cycle of master-slave reversals.

In 2007, the RIAA have completed the means to control all entertainment. A virus is encoded into all of their media and electronic equipment that turns people into mindless couch potatoes who believe all commercials and do as they are told. By 2015, the only resistance to this insidious plot are a handful of faithful hackers running on old (the 2015 standards) Athlon XP processors because the virus was included in all electronic equipment since. They post counter ads in the hopes to "awaken" the masses to the truth. By 2030, the RIAA leaders have been infiltrated by one of the leading hackers and manages to swap all of their "virus" countering equipment with non-functioning ones. Slowly the ads change and awaken a "new" people who have been programmed to be enlightened by the leading hacker. An age of peace and plenty is brought about. In 2050, the sun explodes and everyone basks in warm glow one final time.............:)

It wasn't really meant to be serious. ;)

I really think we'll have things like fusion power, quantum computing, longevity drugs, a cure for AIDS, and hydrogen fuel cell cars. Maybe we'll even have a space elevator.
