if you like those, you might also like sardines. Haven't had them in years.

I did not realize the awesomeness of anchovies till I worked in a pizza joint. I just ate one for the hell of it. Like salty little bits. They are AWESOME!

Another surprisingly good thing. I thought the same, ewwww. Then I had some that were in olive oil and wrapped around a caper. Tasty little dudes.

I had it on some pizza and I wasn't too big a fan of it. It has a really salty taste to it. It might have just been the place I went to though.

edit: I do like the tiny anchovies they serve at Korean bbq places

I worked at a pizza place as a cook when I was younger, and opening the can, seeing that white mushy solidified goop they are stored in, then pulling them out and feeling the hair (fine bones) and smelling them really killed it for me.

I've never even tried one, and never will. (except for in worcestershire sauce, which I don't really like either)

At the recommendation of Alton Brown (hey what can I say, I trust his taste for the most part) I got a can of Bristling Sardines in olive oil and thought I'd give those a go. I can't say I was impressed. It tasted like greasy, stale fish...maybe eating them on their own isn't the way to go. Anyways, the reason I bring this up is to ask : do anchovies taste anything like that or are they, you know, good? And considering I didn't like the bristling sardines in oil, can someone recommend me something that doesn't taste like it?

You know what I love, but can't get around here? Fresh european anchovies.

Around the Black Sea (Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, Romania etc) they take the fresh fish, batter them lightly and pan fry them. Absolutely perfect with plenty of beer and a view of the Black Sea :)

I admit I'm a bit squeamish about anchovies, but you can't make Putanesca without anchovies. yummy.

I suppose it's one of those things I'll slowly get into as the years go on. Also, I'm all into supporting the Latvian economy (er, that would be sardines, though). :)

Being drunk one night I ordered an anchovy and Jalapeno pizza. The order taker said "Can you do that?" I answered "For my money I can do anything"

It quickly became my favorite.

Doesnt sound so radical today.
