Ok the problem is I can't get win2k to except the install of my free maxtor ultra ata 100
card that came with my hd. It will not let me install the drivers it keeps saying that there was an error trying to find the files specified. I am having the same problem installing a modem on the same system. I have done a manual and auto install of the drivers with the same results. I have tried three different modems all with the same problem. I am dual booting win98se and win2kpro. the win98se hasn't had one problem with the installation of the ata card or the modem.
system:
dual boot win2kpro and win98se
p3v4x mb pent3 600@800 pep66 fan@heatsink
384megs of mushkin case 2
maxtor 7200rpm 20 gig and new 30 that came with pci ultra ata 100 card(that won't work)
2cds one writer and one generic
one floppy

New problem now when I start win2k it loops the insatallation of the drivers for the ulta ata card, it just tries to install it over and over. and won't even give me the option of telling it where to find the drivers. It just says there was an error loading some of the device drivers and has disabled the device.

some time you will have that kind of problem if you put your I/O controller without clean install win2000pro. well i got two ATA 100 maxtor on my ABIT AK7A-RAID running again my 12x81gig maxtor just perfect in six month so far and nerver give me a problem yet. well make sure during cleaning install win2000pro than you have to click F6 first and in put the driver of any i/o controller that you have on pc.other why you will have that problem dude;)

My install is a clean one from just a month or so ago. I just did the dual boot thing. Is the F6 for the safe mode in win2k? And would just reinstalling the I/O drivers do the same thing? I have never heard of this problem I am having. Do I need to install the drivers for the maxtor card in safe mode? I thought that safe mode doesn't lode all the drivers?

F6 is only in W2K setup--it allows you to load drivers off medium other than the W2K CD.
F8 is for W2K Safe Mode.

ATA100 speeds are not supported in W2K until SP2 (or a hotfix). But, that should be just the transfer speed (it should run at 66).

Follow dingdongdingdong's instructions: During the w2K boot-from-cd install, hit F6. That will give you a prompt to load the drivers from floppy.

Ok I tried installing the drivers from F6 booting from the cd and I still get the same problem when I run win2k. It just keeps trying to insatall a mass storage device over and over again with the same error. Any other suggestions?

Ok new problem now. I tried doing a repair of win2k to see if maybe there was something wrong there and now I am getting a looping of the installation of the hardware. When it goes to detecting the hardware it gets about half way then goes to a blue screen and says that it is doing a memory dump. I am new to win2k and don't know what a memory dump is? Then it counts to 100 and restarts the machine than goes through the detecting harware thing and starts the same process over again. I let it go and it did this all night long. now I can't get into win2k at all. I think Im gonna have to do a refomat and reinstall Which sucks. I will wait alittle bit befor I do this to see if anyone has any better suggestions.
