Unless your cop that actually get training to that shit.

Even said, I though my collision at ~25mph was bad....

That's BS. Even law enforcement have to abide by the law. As an example, Oregon state law mandates that even in extreme emergency situations, law enforcement officers are not to exceed 15 MPH above the posted speed limit and there is no exception.

That being said, I've seen cops speeding MUCH faster than that. There were rubber marks on the pavement coming out of the police station when a carbomb went off a block from my house in the middle of the night several years ago.

I'd like to beileve but I honestly don't. It'd be a great idea if cops would stop chasing people when they go passed a certain speed. It's better for everyone if they'd just let them get away and slow the fvck down.

I've seen a lot of the local cops get red light at a intersection, flip on the lights and go straight through. then turn the off lights.

Other than that I am generally pleased with my local police force, they do a pretty good job IMHO.

you rather them obey the speed limit and accelerate slower than a sunday driver when a car bomb goes off a block from your house?

He did not ALMOST kill you. You wasted your time blowing the horn. WTF did you think, the massive air pressure of your horn blasting would force the van from your lane? HUH???
Drive the car and avoid the mess. Blowing horns is for idiots.

Yeah, I'm glad he did but I doubt the state employee will lose their job. Last I heard, it looked like that MAX train driver who ran through a signal light right into a Hillsboro fire engine (injuring several and leading to a house to burn to the ground) is gonna get his job back, if you can believe that.

The City of Hillsboro even put up a light at the intersection. Max trains now speed around everywhere like usual in that neighborhood, but they're required to slow WAY down, blow their horn, and CREEP through that one intersection.

Way to go, guys. Logic and reasoning prevail yet again.

Hmmmmm.............I wonder where that is. I now work in Hillsboro.

It's the intersection between the Hillsboro Transit Station and the 8th Street MAX stop.

You work in Hillsboro? Where?

I drove a van for the City, and I can tell you that they were pretty clear about our responsibilities while driving a city vehicle. You did the right thing to report him.

so...he was tired, and possibly asleep. Give the guy a break.

That is never *ever* an excuse. Think about it. You're driving a 2000 lb (much MUCH more for a VAN) vehicle at x miles per hour. The faster you go, the more kinetic energy you'll "transfer" to anything you touch. If you're going to take the responsibility to get behind the wheel at all, you'd damn well better be fully prepared to do it responsibly or not get into the vehicle in the first place -ESPECIALLY a State of Oregon employee.

4500 lbs at 55mph would be my guestimate.

My Chevy full size van weighs 5,000 lbs empty.

Your little tiny car weighs 2800 lbs.

If I make a mistake,oh my you car is going to be crunched a LOT worse than my rusty van.

Oh my van is white, lol, but I don't sell speakers.

But if its just the car that gets screwed up, all of that damage is on your insurance

Oregon highway law clearly dictates that a driver established in their lane has full right-of-way over any driver who wishes to merge into that lane. I run across this occassionally with out-of-state fools merging onto the freeway who think I have to yield and let them in. Hell no, I don't.
Of course, no smart driver should ever insist on the right-of-way, but sometimes crowded traffic conditions leave you with no recourse.

As for this "Blowing horns is for idiots," WTF is that crap? If an inattentive driver is about to cause an accident, alerting them to the situation with a blast of the horn is frequently the best alternative. For example, last weekend, stopped in crowded traffic at a light, the lady in front of me decides to back up so she can change lanes. Trapped in traffic, I cannot move, but she is backing steadily towards me. A quick shot of the horn woke her up and brought her short right before impact. Looks like the horn worked there, eh?

AFAIK every other state is the same way, so I doubt it's the out-of-staters who are the problem.

Then again, I guess a lot of them WOULD be from California...where they practice the infamous multilane swoop.

8th Ave? The Tuality stop? Holy crap, that is right by where I park every day.

btw, I now work for Tuality Healthcare (the hospital in Hillsboro).
