This smells like a scam to me...what do you think?

Since work was cancelled for this evening and I've got nothing better to do I figured I'd pick your brains about this e-mail I received. A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from someone stating that a member of his staff had looked over my resume and they saw some qualities that they were looking for. He named his company (which doesn't seem to exist in my state) and gave me the number of an answering service that I should call. I figured it smelled like a scam so I ignored the e-mail.

Well a couple days ago the same person e-mailed me again with the same message, so I figured I'd bite and I fired off a response. I asked him what his company did and what position I'd be suited for based on my qualifications...sounds simple enough right? In response I received an e-mail more cryptic than the last. He said that there would be a meeting this week with all potential employees to discuss what the company does, what the position and pay would be, and that it's just simply too much to discuss via e-mail. He again told me to call the answering service and let them know if I could attend the meeting and if not to leave my number so they could get a hold of me.

To me this reeks of a scam, but since I'm bored and waiting for XP to install on my other PC I figured I'd toss this out there for you guys to discuss.

What do you think?

a phone call can't hurt, esp while twiddling your thumbs during xp install..

it's Would be strange if they still don't reveal any info on the job on the phone.

[edit]
and like the above guy, just blatantly ask if it's a multimarketing scam.. he'd give u an answer or find the answer based on his reactions

Even if it's legit, it's probably a job that you wouldn't want. I responded to an ad in the paper once that didn't say what it was for, turned out to be selling Kirby Vacuum cleaners

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I've already asked him what his company does and he dodged the question, so that along with his other e-mails are enough to keep me from wasting my time.

Of course it could also be the Kirby Vacuum salesman position that YoungAnimaniac turned down ;)

Its probably an MLM, or another pyramid scheme. Don't ge conned into it. Use a payphone to call, never give out your home # in this situation. Also, make sure to let the authorities know of this great meeting, they may want to visit a few people in there, in case of any prior convictions of existing warrants.

If it's a toll call it could be to one of those $20 a minute offshore phone lines that the "free pr0n" and other dialer installs go through.

There are some companys that hire others to check on hte loyality of there employees, I would be carefull. We had that happen here with a little company and everyone that showed any interest was FIRED. This may not be the case but to be forwarned is to be forarmed,

And the only employees they had left were the ones that were too lazy to look into the new job.
