Instead it was an exercise in frustration. All I was doing was trying to deposit some money into my wife's Roth IRA. Tried to link my bank account for an ETF. Opps, now we need the verification code. And now answer your security questions. Sorry we couldn't link the accounts. I try again. Still can't link. Thats odd - I was able to link an account at this bank to MY roth just fine. So I go to my bank's website to link to Roth account. I can link the account that way but the transfer button is grayed out. Turns out I can't transfer to retirement accounts from my bank's website.
Fine - can I do it over the phone? I talk to my bank: Yes - for a $25 fee. Fuck that.
Maybe I can stop by one of the investment company's offices. There's one on my way home. Nope - they don't do deposits at their offices - even by check. They suggest I fill out an ETF deposit form and mail it in which will take 7-14 business days due to mail, their processing time and the bank's processing time. Or I could write a check and mail it in with the same processing time.
Christ really?
I find the investment firm's webapp which allows photos of check depositing. Great! So I fill out a check and start it up to take a picture. But their app can't seem to take a picture with my camera. It says it can't get a clear image even though I can see the image on my screen as its clear as fucking day.
Can I take the damn picture? Yes by clicking a button. But the button doesn't work in the app. FUUUUUUUCK. I look up the issue and spend 10 minutes dicking around on my phone to fix it. The app also told me to keep the check for 30 days in case the deposit is fucked up.
So supposedly the deposit is pending now but I can't wait to see what fresh deposit hell is waiting for me around the corner...
