here's an idea, you could have the subscriber.anandtech code check to see if the user is a subscriber or not, and if not, then redirect them to the same forums.anandtech page, instead of this ridiculous situation where we have 2 groups of people with incompatible links.

eh?

I think they have already stated before that it would take more effort than it is worth to do that.

Subscriber links are incompatible to non subscribers but not visa versa. A subscriber can access any link on the site. Non subscribers can fix it with 8 cents per day... :) 8 pennies, 8 of those round disks you toss in the middle drawer of your desk because they are more trouble than they are worth. 4 cans of Coca Cola per month from the vending machine. Give up one per week and you can fly through the threads and not be aggrevated with all those pesky banners.

AT doesn't want to do any server side redirects, when forums. is changed to subscriber. I believe it's done on the client side.

If AT were to do server redirects in all the time it would probably impact performance.

What you can do is this, add this line to your hosts file:

subscriber.anandtech.com 168.143.107.163

This should fix the problem for you.
