This seems odd - PC P&C PS cost less than the Egg

I have always seen products on the manufacturer's web store at the suggested retail price which was always equal to or higher than the price you could get the item from a retail outlet like the EGG.

Researching info on the Silencer 610 EPS 12V I discovered I could order the power supply from PC Power & Cooling for less than the price at newegg and newegg has it marked down by $30 from a "normal price of $199.99". I'm getting it from PC P&C for $155.00 and $11.00 FEDEX ground shipping. Should I be wary here? How does this happen?

jimmy, from one paranoid to another, i have a stack of invoices/receipts going back 7-8yrs and have noticed in the last year or so, scenarios that you describe and others. They've made their switch from using FedEx to UPS (and have their rationale for it), have done away with much of their 'free shipping', i too am finding prices lower at my 2nd & 3rd list of 'go-to' stores and thenthere's the rebates...the EGG would have 'instant savings' and an occasional MIR, but not like it is now, their rebate situation is typical of a Frys or Best Buy, some people don't mind them, but i can't stand them.

To me they were on the pedestal of the etail pc business, but i think the pedestal is starting to crumble. So that now means to me that I have to be more diligent in my shopping and do more research for the best price from a reputable etailer.

I'm not paranoid - they are after me. My neighbor says he saw three UPS trucks following me the other day when I went downtown to pay the water bill. One time I saw a hard drive scurry under my front porch and I saw three CPU's and a heatsink hiding in the bushes in my back yard.

You can't be too careful.:D A guy in California almost lost his arm when the cpu power cables of a computer he was working on wrapped around his hand and arm up to his elbow and wouldn't let go.

You can't be too careful----

The happiest and best of a new year to you Yankee, and to all the AT crew and OP's.

I will be in church at midnight as I am each and every year---you can't be too careful.

PCP&C likely doesn't give resellers very good prices, meaning those resellers need to set their prices high to keep their margin, in part to get more people to order directly from them. Cutting out middle men means more money.

not to seem controversal, but what gives you this insight? do you have inside privy knowledge of the volume pricing a reseller might get vs their mark-up margin? if anyone can move a mass amount of inventory, it would be NewEgg.

the reason i say this is i'm starting to see the prices @ NewEgg not be the best as they once were across the board..

I can vouch for that as well - my last two major buys were from Zip Zoom Fly, and they are beating the Egg in product selection and free shipping.

coincidentally, i have two new seperate orders right now placed with ZZF because of cost and free shipping...for me not to buy fron NewEgg is very uncomon...i have one order open with NewEgg and that's for a new hsf...the 2 at ZZF are for a new keyboard/mouse combo and a processor...(so now MewEgg is getting hind tit).

Why would I need inside knowledge to surmise something that common sense should tell you? I don't know if you've noticed it, but PCP&C doesn't exactly push consumers to buy from retailers. Unlike many manufacturers, they don't even have a page directing visitors to websites that sell PCP&C products. The closest they come is this page, which mentions that as a last option, you might go to Fry's or Microcenter. The only mention at all of Newegg on their website is a brief note in passing in a press release.

This is not a company that goes to great lengths to support retailers. And that is their choice.
