It uses a 6-bit TN panel. I have heard that the logo LED on the bezel is bright/annoying, but I don't know of any other serious issues.

Doesn't 6-bit mean I'll be seeing a gradient, ie paint brush strokes of color (sorta like if you set your display to 256-colors. Would it be necessary to get an 8-bit display to avoid this?

No. 6-bit displays use dithering to achieve the intermediate tones. Newer ones use algorithms that exhibit little to no artifacts to the human eye. If I had to guess, I would say this panel did not use the new algorithm, though, since it lists only 16.2M colors. It does still use a more primitive algorithm.

All of the 22" panels on the market now use the new algorithm (Hi-FRC). The LG L204WT (20"w) does as well.
