BUY IT NOW! Do not resist the temptation. Give in now. Canon Digital Elph is the best compact digicam, period. I have the S100 and S400. Awesome stuff. Easiest controls, most intuitive menus. You know you want it, it's sexxxy.

Edit: Crap, 1-2 week wait now.

The S500 has dimensions of 3.4 x 2.2 x 1.1. The SD300 is 3.39 x 2.09 x .82

I hardly consider that soooooo much smaller.

Yeah, but it does feel smaller. The SD series is where it's at now...

eh, the size of the camera isn't a big issue with me. Besides, I'm having a hard time spending $300 on the S500, I don't think I'd be able to spend any more than that comfortably, especially considering I hardly take pictures.

I own that camera and it's awesome.

how much did you originally purchase it for, if you don't mind saying?

Nothing. I purchased it with airmiles I accumulated from business travel.

go to best buy or somewhere and pick them both up. its much smaller and lighter. if u put them in cubic inches it shows much better. the s500 is 8.22, the sd300 is 5.809. bout 30% smaller.

Bit the bullet and ordered it, along with a PSC40 leather case (~$9.46) and an Canon iP3000 photo printer ($96-$70 in rebates), free shipping

Came out to a bit over $400....most I've spent in quite a while on a single purchase. :(

I have the Canon S500.

While its a nice camera it lacks important adjustments, main one being the lack of manual aparture size adjustments. And it doesn't have the fancy presets that other canon cameras have.

apart from that, its great.

if you'd like to see some of hte pictures i have taken wiht it, feel free to IM me.

I'm more of a point and shoot user, don't know much about cameras and adjustments. I've seen some pictures taken with this camera on steves-digicams.com, they look great

that's cool then. It's a great size and very nice battery life as well.

about how many shots on average could you take without recharging the battery? Also, did you buy a spare battery for this or you just have the one that came with it?
