I'm checking into getting a handgun and I need a permit.
It takes 15-20 working days to process an application under normal circumstances.
Then I have to go pick out a gun and wait another day or so until they do a criminal back ground check before I get the gun...

They do this same criminal background check along with alot of others when they examine my application for a gun permit.

So it will probably take me a month or so until I can get a handgun.

Why do I need a gun in such a hurry?

Because as soon as we begin the attack on Afghanistan, they is going to be a $hitload of backlash in the US by the thousands of terrorists that are already here. I simply want to protect my family, possessions, and country....I hope I don't have to use it, but will if I have to.

This kinda reminds me of the Simpson's episode where Homer wanted to buy a gun, he was told he had to wait 5 days, his response, "5 days, but I'm angry now".

"How am I supposed to go five days without shooting something?"

Just be careful. Remember, a handgun is NOT a TV remote control, nor is it a method of opening a can of beer. And please refrain from getting stuff off your roof with it, too.

Nitemare (bytheway happy 13th birthday), don't worry about that, Bush has repetedly stated that the terrorist AND those that harbore the will be punished. This in text includes the US (1000 of residing terrorist). So the US will be nuke (punished) and you don't have to worry.
:)
I personaly think he should change that to "and those that support them"

Your welcome little brother,
Yes they might get the 1000 or so terrorists residing in the US, but can you honestly say they will get them all or even that they will get them all before they blow up something else?

Yes I remember that Simpsons episode and I thought it was hilarious, but he didn't have to wait a whole month..think it was less than a week.

I'm certified by the Air Force on the 9mm(marksman and field stripping) and have shot a wide variety of weapons, pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns..etc. Never tried to open a beer with one before...hmmm...neah. I just think it is totally whack that I have to wait over a month to get a handgun(legally).

Just buy one from a private citizen, no waiting period and you can generally find nicer accessories (like high cap magazines).

Might just have to get a shotgun. I really don't want one because I think they and rifles would be too bulky and very impracticle for close range.

GO TAKE A SAFETY CLASS.

I'm a long time gun owner and a gun rights supporter, and I'm telling you not to buy one for the wrong reasons. Especially handguns, they are more dangerous in inexperienced hands. If you absolutely must buy a firearm, consider a shotgun with light ammo. It will do what is necessary without killing a 6 year old sleeping in his bed 2 blocks down.

Not if you shorten the barrel to 4 inches :)
Just don't tell the cops!

Man don't worry so much. A month? Damn its not like the US will be under constant attack from thousands of terrorists all over the place. Martial law would kick in at that stage anyway. A month is fine, trust me your family will be fine! :p

Umm, no. But I did have some water and food stored up just in case...nowhere near as bad as those "programmers" that moved out of the city and headed for the hills...bet they are kind of embarassed.

I put a gun safety class right on up there with directions for household cleaners...do not ingest, do not pour into the eyes, do not ....etc...

The number one rule is to not point the gun at anything unless you intend to kill, it is a lethal weapon...yadda yadda...I know all that and do not have any children. I know how to use a firearm as well as maintain them and will instruct my wife in how to maintain it as well. She already knows how to use one..

I'm not knocking gun safety class as I assure you there is people out there that actually need it, else there would not be one. I'm just saying it is not for me.

Theres more to it than 'dont point it at people'. They teach you handling and shooting techniques that are very important. Seriously, take the class, even if you are a world class marksman. Encourage your wife to take the class with you.
