I am getting this for free, yes free, from work because we are changing buildings and they are just giving away stuff they havent used within the last year or so. Anyway, I found this raid card. i know nothing about the things, and was wondering if this one was any good.
thanks

AMI make some of the better RAID cards.. only thing i dont like is the 72pin memory.. if the cache memory is slow, overall performance will be slowed.. but it still better than no cache at all..

it doesnt say it has win9x support either. i'd check AMI's site. they make some very high end stuff. Having the simm slot for cache is good, as well any caching raid controller is better than a non caching. Also this probably means that it is a hardware controller, unlike software based ones like the promise or the highpoint ones.

found win2k and linux drivers on ami's site. one more question for you all. how much do you think its worth? i know, i know, price checks are shunned thats why i didnt post it in the FS forum. I saw one on eb@y that went out for like 230, is it really worth near that much?

These cards work fine. They work well. These cards actually have a lot more features than even the newest Adaptec SCSI RAID conrollers. I think they might even have native Windows 2000 drivers. These cards aren't that uncommon in servers. The best way to find out about it's features is to just plug it in and play with it.

As to price, I'm selling a Netraid 1si, almost the exact same card, for $175 with no takers. Someone sold a 1si in about 10 minutes at $135 though.
