Well, I just didnt know if there were any changes to the cable system on C2D motherboards, or if something like the E6600 used more power.

I'm just looking at the E6600, plus either a NF5 or 975 based board. Also new ram of course.
Hopefully can reuse as much of my current stuff as possible

Antec Superlanboy
BFG 7900GTX
BFG 550watt PSU (dual 18A rail)
Plextor SATA dual layer dvd burner
2 Seagate 7200.9 200GB SATA drives
USB floppy (ftw.) ;)

I'm looking to spend whatever it takes to get on a C2D E6600 + whatever else I need

I would think that all looks ok to use. If you are worried about it you can always get this instead of getting a new PSU. :)

As far as I know, BFG isn't known for PSUs, Video cards yes, but not power supplys. The big names are Forton, Seasonic, Enermax & PC Power & cooling, zippy. You just about can't go wrong with something from one of those manufactures.

That thing is a piece of junk.

Try Seasonic, Enhance, Forton-Source, or PCP&C.

that is what i was going to say but in a nicer way but it looks like he already has it probably got it off a deal with his graphics card. It should be fine it's not that good of a psu obviously but it will work. I am looking foward to the E6600 also

LOL

I'm not sure if I came to the right place to ask a technical question or not.

You all do realize this is a rebadged Fortron Source FSP550-60PLN right? All BFG did to it was give me a 3 year warranty and nickel plate it..

Where you guys get the idea its a "piece of junk" i have no idea? What would you base that off of? Because its a BFG?

So you've managed to avoid a review of conroe (because every single one says that they are more power efficent than current CPUs, and that they will work in some motherboards out, which means they don't need any special connectors). You ignore the fact that (nearly) any single graphics card system, even with a Pentium D, can be run with a 350W PSU and yet you know serriously indepth info on the PSU itself? I'm confused. ;)

Do you have a source for the rebadging info? The 650W is a Topower one, and not a great writeup on JonnyGuru's site (not awful, but not great either) http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/BFG650W/

Most of the new rebadges around seem to be second rate ones at the moment.

I've had this PSU for a couple years now. I dont have a link "proving" the rebadge anymore since I've had it so long and long lost any research Ive done it beyond the PSU that it is from fortron according to BFG when I asked them.

I knew C2D was pretty efficient, but I dont know much about the new Intel platforms as ive been out of their stuff for many many years.. that is all.
Didnt mean to OFFEND you, big guy

And Ive read that johnnyguru review.

I was only aware of the Topower sourced BFG (which in my opinion is junk), sorry my mistake.

To your original point though, Core2 uses far less power then the P4 and even the A64 so 500+ watts is almost certainly more then you need.

Offend? Not at all, i'm just mystified by the ability to miss whole swathes of information about conroe ;)

Didn't know BFG were selling PSUs for that long, but if you say so.

The PSU should be perfectly fine.

People here make too many generic assumptions on brands.

I'd be concerned about the 7900GTX though.
There are reports of it causing user insanity. Apparently ATi's X1900XT is more user friendly ;)
