This Plextor is SWEET

Plextor IDE 12/10/32A surfing the net. Copying files from the internet and listen to my FM tuner AND burning a backup copy of my H/D at X12!! And nothing closed in the task bar! Damn its so fast it finished before the end of this post 😀
Burnprocess done successfully at 12x (1800 KB/s)

I know it is a fast CDRW, but I didn't know that you could do other things while burning a CD.

At least I can't do it with my Philips 8x/4x/32x.

It has BurnProof to prevent buffer underruns. The laser actually stops burning when it detects too much i/o usage and the buffer is being used up too fast. Its a really cool feature. I would get a Plextor..but then, I'm pretty happy with my 6x Teac Scsi.

Ducker it has the new Burn Proof Technology. Im sure you've heard of it?
Well I upgraded from a X2 burner. So it was a good upgrade for me. I really wouldnt suggest it for any one just going from a 8X and up like yours. To me thats still plenty fast enough. The Burn-Proof helps from Under-buffer errors. Its pretty cool.

Yeah, I have heard of burn proof technology; I just didn't know that its main feature was to let you do other things while burning a cd.

yeah, burnproof is awesome. if you already have a scsi drive, stick to it. but if anyone is the market for a new drive, the plextor 12/10/32 is the way to go. 🙂

The Burnproof SCSI version from Plextor is gonna be here anytime soon. That drive is gonna rock.

how the hell can you say plextor sucks for making burns or images/?!!?!?!?!? are you freakin nuts?

And i've had "burnproof" for a while.. it's called SCSI 🙂 Implementing burnProof into a scsi version seems somewhat pointless. I've been doing things on my comp for a while because i had a scsi burner.

"Implementing burnProof into a scsi version seems somewhat pointless."

1) features sell..
2) whatever buffer underruns you DID get, probably won't happen anymore!

I have the Plextor 8x20 SCSI and I must say that this is an awsome drive. Out of the 200+ cd's I have burnt I have never had a buffer underrun. I have had about 3 costers total but that was because I didn't have the newest ASPI drivers installed. Overall I would have to say that this plextor has been extremely good to me.

Soccerman: well, yeah, features sell, but i was just looking from a technical standpoint 🙂

And I never did anything that would cause bufferunderruns... well.. maybe trying to read the cd that was being burned... but enough about that 🙂

Huh? You guys actually 'need' that? I'm confused... I was at my cousin's house, he has some 2 or 4x IDE burner in a P166MMX, and I was surfing and ICQing, and I forget maybe even MP3ing, while burning Startrek Armada. Worked fine. Where's the problem and need for that 'feature' you're talking about?

RSI: very strange in-deed. Many ppl w/ IDE burners just can't take it.. you burn.. then if you try to do anything, underruns up the arse.

I used to burn with my 6x burner while playing Quake all the time...Never had a buffer underrun here 🙂

Having a 12x plextor would definitely be nice though...but I have had my Ricoh 6x4x24 for well over a year with no problems. 13 minutes isn't bad to wait for a full CD...but I would get the 12x if this thing ever choked 🙂

I got the Sony 12x (for cheap though, not enough money to get a Plextor), and I say, you can wait 5 minutes for the burn to finish and then go do stuff. My Plextor 8432 was awesome though, haven't burned too much with the new one, anything bad about the Sony?

Once you go Plextor you will never go with anything else!!

Bought my Plextor 4x years ago... still use it till this day... have upgraded now to an Plexwriter 8x20 with a 32x Ultraplex... very nice setup.

JaiKnight,

I been using Memorex and Sony CD-R's. The write speed is only X8 tops on each, but Ive been able to burn both at X12 speed. Also even the cheap Comp USA CDs the ones you can get 50 for $9.99 or use too. I'm able to burn those at X12 speed.

RSI was you smoking crack at your cousins house? 😀 Most Burners require atleast 200MHZ. But if you say it will do everything you have listed I believe you 😉

I can surf and do other things with my Plextor 8/4/32A without making coasters. The Plextor drive really kicks some serious ass. Ofcourse I can't play a game but no problem playing mp3z while surfing the net...

AoD 😉

I've never made a coaster with my SCSI Plextor setup. But, I've encountered the the dreaded buffer-underrun in my other system which has an HP 7200 IDE burner.

The burnproof technology is interesting, and if I ever had a reason to buy another IDE burner, I'd devinitely want it. But, I'm a Plextor man now. Nothing else will do.

Plextor 8x20 and 40X MAX with NERO and CloneCD -- no CD is safe. 🙂

Never burned a coaster with the Plextors. I replaced a Yamaha SCSI (4416S) which was also coaster-free. Previous IDE burner did have a few -- that was a Philips 2x2x6.

12x4x32 SCSI, 40x SCSI--both Plex. I can burn on-the-fly at 12x while playing D2. I've yet to find any media that won't burn at 12X.

I installed a Plextor w/burnproof on a g/f's a couple weeks ago. I spent 2 hours trying to crash a burn. I did everything but try to install a program. It didn't miss a beat.

AndrewR is correct. All you need is Nero and CloneCD.

I would never recommend an IDE burner without burnproof again.
