You're probably an email address in their database. It's not necessarily sent by text message. All cellphones (most, anyway) can get text messages by email.

Well, I don't have text messaging paid for on my phone. I get VERY few text messages, so every time they send me one, I get charged...

I wasn't disputing that, just that the message most likely originated through email (at their end.) Chances are good that it wasn't sent like a traditional text message so they don't have to pay for it (but you do.)
