I did get a really weird email one time tho.. it was from someone claiming to be royalty in some third world country and he needed to hide money so his tyrant father (or some other fam member) wouldn't get it, and he wanted to entrust it to an American's bank account (with compensation of course).

That's probably the farthest I've seen a spammer go in determining active email addresses. Or at least that's the most realistic explanation I could come up with.

This sounds more like, as someone said, an isolated incident. Not really sure what starting fights here and on other forums has to do with spam, but I've signed up people for mailing lists after they pissed me off before. *shrugs*
