I like the way it looks as an art project, but it looks very uncomfortable to ride.

Lots of customized V-Rods around, the Germans went crazy with them. The one up there looks like it started life as a DX, and it doesn't look all that far from stock to me.

Personally I think my D was a better looking machine.

Harley Night Rod. Version of the V-Rod which I've loved for years
The bike in the pic is actually a DX, the Night Rod Special. Mine is a D, the Night Rod. The only V-Rod that came stock with mid controls.
In 2008 Harley refreshed the V-Rod line with a 240mm rear tire, increased displacement from 1130 to 1250cc, a slipper clutch, Brembo brakes and a 5 gallon fuel tank. That was also the last year they made the D model as the DX had better sales.

The all black look never rang my bell. I really liked the chrome engine kit as it added some contrast to the overall look.

It's a shame Harley dumped the best engine they ever built.

I got a kick out of the viper cycle from a few years back. Not enough money on the planet to get me to turn the engine over though.
The Millyard Viper V10 is a one-off motorcycle capable of over 200 mph (320 km/h)[1] that was built by British engineer Allen Millyard. The motorcycle weighs 1,200 lb (540 kg), of which 700 lb (320 kg) is the engine,[2] and is powered by an 8-litre Dodge Viper V10 engine producing 500 bhp (370 kW).[3] Millyard has stated that he aims to reach a top speed of 250 mph (400 km/h) with this bike.

What's with designs where you need to have really long arms???
Well for something like that you absolutely have to keep your legs off the engine, which means you're leaning forward like a sportbike. That said, the whole design is insane and can hardly be considered reasonable for normal usage.
