weak rant. Convenience is something some people pay for others choose not to.

A lot of Publix stores in Canada, are there? Or is this a rant so lazy that the OP couldn't be bothered to document other's laziness with original photography? The fact that the canned pineapple is on sale is not helping your case, either.

edit: 40 oz. of perfectly cut, perfectly ripened pineapple for $1.79 (USD, again, there are no Publix stores in Canada)? I'll take it over the 2-5$ crapshoot that is the "fresh" pineapple which has always been picked way too far from the ripe stage and while not a huge pain to cut, is still harder than opening a tin, and you won't get as much juice.

And how long is that fresh pineapple going to last in your pantry? There are a lot of reasons other than laziness to buy prepared food.

Just a random pic I found on the interweb, I just thought it was hilarious, not a rant.

I can just picture the person seeing these, all happy that they come pre cut in cans, and put that pine apple on the shelf and grabbed a bunch of cans instead.

Actually how long do fresh ones last anyway? I never keep one lying around for more than a week. I typically buy them for juicing but I end up eating half of it before it goes in the machine.

Makes more sense with your explanation. I really don't know how long they last. Pretty much anybody in the states who buys one intends to do something with it pretty quickly. Fresh pineapple is so delicious...

Fresh pineapple often makes my lips bleed. Don't know if its just the acidity or the protein-destroying enzyme it has in it.

Tinned pineapple is heat-treated so doesn't make one look like an extra from a some sort of 'Outbreak' movie knockoff.

Not saying that's the explanation for the picture, just my reason for often preferring the tinned stuff (as well as the fact it keeps way longer - tinned food is great if you are too disorganised/lazy to shop frequently! So maybe it is lazyness, just a different kind of lazyness).

(apparently fresh pinapple won't let jello set, while tinned stuff will, precisely because of the presence of that protein-attacking stuff).

Did you learn nothing from the last time you decided to share something "random from the internet" with us?

Yeah, that most people are assholes.
yup most people are assholes and I agree with you, people buy into convenience too much and are lazy.not trying to argue or discriminate but I find it sad that they are so weak that they feel everything must be in a can or instant.

Honestly I would think this was more of a kid trying to be funny. I don't look at that picture and think somebody decided to swap right then.

I know. We should all stop using Google and go to the library and find our information there. We're so damn lazy for using modern conveniences.

This photo speaks to the ignorance of the average person also. I have friends who actually eat food that contains preservatives, artificial color, and flavor as well as GMO poisonous ingredients. I buy NOTHING in cans .. I wonder how sanitary those cans are ??
Good thread idea Red Squirrel !

Pineapples are a pain in the ass to cut up... even with a handy pineapple slicer. I always use the can stuff for smoothies although fresh tastes so much better. But fresh pineapple is expensive around me.

Go on...

Exactly. Just to cure some of your ignorance, most canned food does not have preservatives, with the exception of salt, which is for flavor as much as for preserving. The cans are VERY sanitary, and many have liners as well. The act of sealing out the atmosphere is what preserves the food within.

Not even going to address the GMO boogey man argument as you have clearly been brainwashed by some special interest group and/or "Big Organic".

I agree artificial colors are used way too much, but I really doubt you always eat food without ANY of those things you mentioned. I used to live on a WWoOF farm, and although was eating mainly stuff that grew there, would still indulge on packaged food and eat at some restaurants where it is much harder to control the ingredients.

At least they left something relevant there... try shopping at the Home Depot in Yonker NY, it's the most unorganized mess I've ever seen. Pipe fittings in electrical bins, tile sealers in the light bulb area, garden fertilizer in the lumber area. It's a disaster.

Yeah, and I am sure the 2 for 1 sign (with two cans missing directly behind it) had nothing to do with their purchase decision.

Hahaha, awesome picture!

Not just so lazy they would rather have can vs fresh, but so lazy they won't even go and put the fresh pineapple back where they found it! I hate that attitude of "I' can't be troubled to put this back from where I got it." That attitude is the reason why assholes leave carts all over the place. It's not just lazyness, it's negligence. It's like announcing "I don't give a fvck about anybody but myself."

They pay people to put stuff back where it goes. I know because I used to work as one of those people back in high school. Never once did I think the person was an asshole. No way am I going to waste time going all the way back to the beginning of the store when they have people to do exactly that.

Also, this type of thing has been happening since the beginnings of commerce, not really indicative of how lazy people have "become," as if this is some recent development.
