I have a 2 computer lan. My main comp is running windows 2k and the other is runnin WinBlowsMe. I am using ICS but for some reason on the 2nd computer there are some sites that I cannot go to. It is rather strange because if I check MY hotmail account on that comp I have no probs but if I try to check my roommates account the connection will time out after I enter the login name and password. It also will not let me go to www.sprintpcs.com.
Im not sure how long the hotmail has been like this but the sprint one just happened. One minute my roommate is on the page checking his cell phone bill and the next time he tries to go back the connection times out! There are a few other sites that do this one of those sites is http://ahl.telefragged.com/ for the action mod for half-life. I wonder if there is something that these sites have in common that the computer doesnt like? Is my computer blocking certain sites from being veiwed on his? I would like to know if there is anything that can remedy this rather annoying problem.
Oh and I have zonealarm installed on both computers but this problem does not go away if I turn it off on one or both comps. It probably isnt ZA anyhow because the hotmail deal happened before I ever instlled ZA.
Well any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Try uninstalling Zonealarm, will fix your problem, damm near crashed my win2k box when the prog was on it, was thankful that their uninstall program worked well🙂.

PS: I use win2k on my main box and have win98se on the 2nd box and do not have the problem you are having and running ICS on the win2k box.

well anyway like I said it did this before ZA. And the ZA patch fixed the problems it had with 2k. Besides I have already tried that it has something to do with windows networking. I think that the win2k box wich is the main ics box is for some reason blocking the other comp from veiwing some pages.

thanks

Have you checked the Internet Explorer security and content settings (Tools|Options) to see if they differ on the two machines? Just one example, if some type of scripting was disabled on the WinME machine, that might prevent it from getting to certain sites.

Jim

Well, shucks. Not gonna be that easy, huh?

Is there any difference in browser versions / service packs (for the browser, I mean)? How about the JVM? Same version on both systems?

Yah both browsers are the same with all of the add-ons for IE that are on the windows update page. Well I must say this one has stumped me for like 2 months and the only thing I can think of is possibly it has somehting to do with the differences between win 2k and win ME. But of coarse if I knew that I would have fixed it by now :0)

The differences between W2K and Win ME -- as in W2K works??? 😀

I really shouldn't say anything derrogatory about Win ME. The one and only machine I've touched that had Win ME on it was a new Dell I helped a neophyte set up, and it seemed to perform flawlessly. But I certainly have heard about some major league strangeness from people who are using it.

Sorry I'm not being any help. In the extremely unlikely case that I get smart enough to think of something in the next few, I'll get back to you.

Regards,
Jim

So formatting ME is out of the question😉? And installing 2k or SE on the 2nd box? Aside from that, did you try borrowing a laptop or another box to see if it had problems too? Just a thought.

Jim

Well I think I will just save myself the headaches and put 2k on the second box. Should have done that a long time ago but I get a little lazy sometimes:0)

Probably do it next week end......or the one after taht 🙂

Well problem solved! I was using the Enternet 3000 software that came with my SWBell dsl.
Well I changed to the RASPPPOE and it is soo much better. So it was something totally different than I had suspected. :0)

I LOVE IT! Thank you for posting back with what you found out. That's one to keep in the collection of arcane facts! How would you ever suspect that the PPPoE software was the source of the problem???

Regards,
Jim
