I got it from Lowes...

It's a 12" x 12" marble floor tile

I got one with a glassy finish that I could see myself in, then took some fine sand paper and scuffed it up a bit so the laser would work.

(Note: do NOT put these mouse pads down corner first. They will chip and then you have to bust out the super glue)

I wonder if you could mod one or even a couple of those AC coffee cup warmers onto the bottom of the tile for when it feels like an iceberg. I think they make them for USB as well.

thats like a home made icemat. i think if you can get it sand blasted it would be even better than sanding it.

on mine i did some ghetto sandblasting... literally rubbing the surface with sand.

Works well for an optical, and probably for a laser (mine doesn't track on anything, i think it's the mouse itself)

I saw his thread earlier talking about a hard surface mouse pad. I think i'll stick with my icemat 2nd edition in black :) sure it was on the expensive side speacially when i bought it my bro just picked up one recently I think it was $34.99 it's expensive but if you decide to go a cloth pad lets say you end up buying having to replace them. This is glass i've seen no wear really done and it's very easy to clean with some windex :-D
