Alright my Older brother has been going crazy ever since we got wireless router downloading everything on edonkey (worst prog imo) like things he dosent even know what they are. Now this must be stopped because my downloads go no faster than 3 Kb/s. When he is not downloading anything or just one file i get about 150-200KB/s on files i am on 1.5Mb comcast line and upload is 128 and he has about 10 files being uploaded at once. Now my questoin is what the best way to make edonkey from working? maybe some registry editing, nothing with ports because he;ll just look on the router config panel, its ok if he has to reinstall windows to fix the problem :) .

Go set his TCP Receive Window in Windows on his machine very small.

Just do the opposite of the speed tweaks here

if you can figure out which port edonkey uses you could set the router to block it.

Edit: I think it uses port 4662

I searched download.com for bandwidth limiting or throttling software and so far I haven't come up with anything... when all fails take a second computer with and make a null modem connection with his (little 9V battery to create a circuit, tell it not to wait for dial tone, setup a dialup server on the other one), that should restrict the bandswitch to 28.8 in no time <insert evil grin here>

Through a virus onto his computer, something not removeable with the standard virus killers, and tell him he must have downloaded it off of edonkey. Try to find a virus that will cause him to have to reformat and start over:disgust::D

Just tell your parents that he has 20Gb's of pr0n on his computer. And tell them what is even worse is that it's really poor quality pr0n!!!!!!!!!

Look, if you want to limit his bandwidth, limit his RWIN (TCP Receive Window) setting on his computer.

It's only ONE registry setting, and you can return it to it's original setting if you please.

Download Dr TCP. It's a nifty little utility that sets the RWIN to whatever you want. Fool around with it until you half his download speeds. I'm sure there is a time of day you can have 30 miniutes or so of uninterupted time with his machine, right?

ok i am gonna try DR. TCP tommarow what are some good numbers to start with i want to give him about 1/4 of the bandwith.

First, find a website with downloadable files that you know has consistent speeds. Note the speed at which it downloads. This will be your test site.

Now, if I understood you right, you have a line speed of between 1 and 1.5 mb/s. Am I correct?

If so, try a value of about 6000. Then test it. If you've halved your speed, that's the setting. If the speed is more than halved, increase it in increments of 1000 (you don't want it to be too obvious... 1/4 is too much.). If the speed is less than halved, do the opposite.

Don't do 1/4. It's too obvious, not to mention unfair. He has a right to half the bandwidth.
