First post, Hi Y'all...

I was wondering if it was possible to utilize the first and third video slots of the Asus Maximus
Extreme Motherboard? I just bought 2 XFX Radeon 4870's and I can hook them up side by side...I just wanted to space them better for better air flow??? Is it possible?

I also wanted to state if I just use first and third slot, will my board recognize crossfire?

the Maximus Extreme only has 2 16x PCI-e slots they are both 16x PCI-E 2.0 so it doesn't matter which slot you use but if your doing crossfire you'll need to put 1 4870 in each of the 2 16x slots.,

edit, I forgot about the 3rd white slot, it runs off the sb and is not PCE-E 2.0 you'll want to use the blue slots and not the bottom white one.

edit: again, yes you can use one blue and one white slot but the card in the white slot will be bandwith starved.
