Corn went from being a small farm product to now being big ass business.

Its impossible for the small time farmer to grow profitably with the way payouts are scaled since the early 70s.

I am with Kaido. Nowadays if everything has corn in it. Hell even the beef is stuffed full of corn till its almost dead then slaughtered. Thats right. If a calf was allowed to grow to adulthood it would die from heart disease and toxicity from basically drowning in corn.

I think the idea of doubling the corn yields is looking towards the future where we can no longer afford to use corn for ethanol, but its needed to feed humanity.

Let's see.....it won't make corn cheaper. Increased pesticide costs and fertilizer costs due to the increased plant density.

It does seem that it would probably increase the fertilizer cost. But, pesticides and herbicides are applied at a rate per acre, not a rate per plant. If you have half the acreage, it would cut the pesticide costs in half.

Since I know that "corn yields" is actually code for "average american woman breast size", I am in support of this.

The whole single-crop thing...look at what happened to Ireland...
