what does this story of a guy building a hole have to do with his mother?
<---obviously missing something

yup. me too.

at least im not alone...

ditto

I'm just guessing here but what I think the previous poster was insinuating was that the hole represents a giant womb.

LOL!

No no....he's still doing wacky stuff to get attention, because obviously he didnt get enough from his mother when he was a kid. 😛

I'm a city boy and I thought that was cool the first time I read it. I remember reading about how the hole was all grown over now and that they are selling off the house. I could just think how cool it would be to be a kid moving into that house with a pre-built fort and camping area.

Those pics of the snake he killed reminded me of the nightmarket here in Taipei: Snake Alley.
They used to have huge shows where they would skin live snakes..they would writhe and bleed, and crowds would gather round for this "show". (It's technically illegal now..but they still do it surreptitiously)

People would then put the snakes in soup and drink their blood..the people here think it is healthy for the eyes, and girls are told they will be prettier if they eat snake soup. My cousin came here recently and she said it tasted like chicken..go figure.

The first pic is of one of the booths in the alley that did not have a live showing..so there weren't any people around, and I could sneak in a photo. If you look carefully, you can see skinned snakes hanging in the background.

Then there's the last photo of the HUGE PYTHON and a baby chick. The chick is quite large actually. I would say around 6 inches high. There was a big crowd around this, as the showing was to watch the python eat the live chick.

Asians....😕

NO TAKING PICTURE on the cart of the 1st picture.

I'm not familar with the Oriental languages but it appears that a lot of Orientals don't
understand the plural form of English words .....Is there a reason for that?

Because in Mandarin is there no plural form for words.

Instead of "two apples" in English, you just say "two apple" (literal translation) with no word transformation.

I don't know about other "oriental" languages, but the lack of pluaral in this case may stem from Chinese grammar conceptually not being the same as English. The concept of adding an "s" to specify more than one doesn't exist. Instead, they use counting words to specify a number.

Without getting too far into it, it's similar (but not exactly) to English when we say "a pair of shoes" or "a flock of geese". "pair" and "flock" are words that suggest more than one, but they're also words you can only use to count certain types of things.

In Chinese, there are a LOT of counting words specific to certain countable things. It's a pain to remember them all... but that's probably why they also have a generic counting word.

If you're around a lot of Chinese speakers, you'll also notice that they seem to get "he" and "she" mixed up a lot. There's a reason for that too... but it's not as dirty as you think. 😀

The worst thing I saw in Snake Alley was the soft shell turtles. The guy would hang live turtles from a hook over his table. He'd hook them through the shell, near the tail, so their legs would be waving in the air and their heads were poking around.

On the table he'd be chopping off turtle heads and putting them in a pile. Both the heads and the bodies continued to move around the table.

I still imagine how horrible it'd be to be one of the turtles hanging and seeing what would be happening to me on the table... I mean, if turtles are capable of abstracting that kind of stuff. 😕

One of the chinese markets I went to when I was younger sold turtles in the seafood section. Instead of selling the turtle whole, they sold halves. LENGTHWISE halves. So you can see half his brain all his internal organs, stuff like that. Anyways I was pretty grossed out and now when I refer to anything done lengthwise, I say turtle-style haha.
