So, just recently, for no reason whatsoever :|:| my speakers decide to act up on me. I have a set of Klipsch 5.1 Promedia's, beautiful things..... but lately, after what seems like "prolonged exposure to being on" they will get all muffled and play everything in this low volume, extremely muffled way...... I've reseated all connections, checked out settings 45 times, and resinstalled drivers 19 times....... the only thing that seems to fix it is if i shut down my computer for a few hours. Then after they work for a few more hours, it happens again, for no reason

I've NEVER heard of this kind of problem and it's driving me craaaaaazy

EDIT: I've narrowed it down to this phenomenon only happening when I have my center channel hooked up. If I unplug the center, everything seems to work fine

Sound card or speaker amp is overheating.

If you've got another sound card, swap it in and see if it still does it. If it does, then open up your sub and see if having it open will let it run cooler. If that's it, you need to find a way to vent that sub (the amps are in the sub enclosure on most computer speaker sets).

The sound card I'm using is an onboard nVidia........ I do have a turtle beach santa cruz one, but never got it to work right

The sub overheating?!? :Q That's odd, because it doesn't feel hot

What would cause them to suddenly start overheating? I've used them for months without trouble. :(

Did you have your heat come on this past week? (Instead of running the AC)
That may be the difference.

The first and second generations of Klipsch 5.1 (not the third) have known amp problems. Klipsch will RMA them for you and they pay shipping too (they send you a label) They also cross-ship. You may want to look into that, I had to do that for mine and I had the same problem, had my Klipschs for a year and then the speakers started cutting out. The headphone jack would still work though, because that didn't involve the amp (or so I was told.)
