It also makes me feel better knowing I keep a fire extinguisher on each floor of the house.
Of course, its possible a fire extinguisher might not have helped in this situation.
Also its possible everyone was awake already so smoke detectors may or may not have helped either.

Pretty much guaranteed that they didn't have working smoke detectors. This stuff happens all the time because people don't have them. Terrible and pointless.

The best thing is that there is still faith in humanity after this horrible tragedy. Case and point... this man spent his time building personalized caskets for the perished. Sad that the children died, but extraordinary that he put thought and effort in offering a small semblance of happiness to the rest of the family.
