i'm about to buy this laptop at powernotebooks.com
i figure i'll wait a few days so i can have some time to think about it
the price is steep and hurts but i guess that is the price you have to pay for these things if you want good graphics an such
i wish i could have purchased an athlon laptop i feel like i am betraying my favorite cpu maker but the intel route just seems too strong as far as laptops go
anyone got any recommendations of this decision ??
comments ?
or ideas on anything

thanks

What about the cpu in this particular laptop is it the P4-M or just the desktop cpu and is there any difference at all in the packaging between the P4-M and just the regular P4 still socket 478 right ??

also since this board is taking ddr memory i was wondering if i would be able to buy ddr memory and upgrade on my own at a later time ??

are the ddr modules different like in the case of pc-133 for laptops or is there no difference ??

also is there a noticable difference between Uxga and Sxga+ displays ??

is the intel 845mp the best mobile chipset at the moment for the P4 ??

wonder how long the battery lasts on one of these if i was typing and doing regular desktop work ???

anyone own one of these by chance ??

sorry for all these questions but if anyone can answer any of them it's more than helpful
thanks

It uses the desktop P4 chip. I would recommend you stay away from it. It runs hotter, uses more power, and runs slower than the P4-M version. I think the chip is also physically different. I have never seen a P4 desktop chip but the P4-M seems a lot smaller than any desktop chip I have seen in recent years.

Yes you can probably upgrade at a later time. Laptops using DDR memory need 200 pin SO-DIMMS.

Probably, but UXGA is way too small for me.

With the desktop P4 chip, probably not long at all. The Sager I have used had horrible battery life. It only lasted 1:45 when it was new and it was upgraded from a NIMH to a LI-Ion battery. BTW it was a K6-2.

anyone own one of these by chance ??

No, but I know someone who owned an older Sager. It was a piece of junk. Major problems from day one. It is only 2 years old and is not totally useless (battery can not charge/discharge (the battery is NOT dead)). It has had multiple parts fail (fan, battery circuitry, CD-ROM (twice!)).

I would recommend you look at other brands. I personally like the Dell Inspiron 8200 because it has the GeForce 4 GO and is fully upgradeable. You can upgrade almost everything including the video card and CPU.

I second that. Stay away from laptops that use desktop CPU. The price difference doesn't worth the trouble.

What kinda battery life do you think this laptop would get with a 2ghz desktop P4 in it ??

i thought that the power saving features were controlled by the chipset lowering the voltage of the cpu so the cpu adjusts itself ??

nothing is ever perfect i tellya

The chipset does do a lot of the power saving, but the cpu still has to support it. Are mobile cpu's multiplier unlocked so the chipset just changes teh multiplier for lower clock speeds, and in turn that lets it crank down the voltage?

so what about battery life on a system like that ???
any chance at more than 2 hours ??

Maybe if it has a 100W/hr battery (which I SERIOUSLY doubt). Not to mention that would probably make it weigh more than my desktop. I would expect 1-1.5 hours of battery life. Sager's are known to have horrible battery life. If you plan to use it on battery frequently then I STRONGLY suggest you keep away from Sager. As I stated before battery problems were the biggest issue with the Sager I worked with.
