I was checking out some blogs and it seems righties are up in arms about the song "This land is your land" sung a the inauguration by Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen.

The verse in question (yes it is part of the original song)is at 2:40.

There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;
Sign was painted, it said private property;
But on the back side it didn't say nothing;
That side was made for you and me.

Commie conspiracy? Or just an old song about USA's sharing spirit?

Have we lost the good Samaritan/solidarity aspect of being citizens of America since the 80s that such a line becomes ideologically offensive?

Seems very un-pc in this day and age of the conservative me mindset.

No one intelligent thinks that's some sly and secret commie conspiracy, even the few reject wingnuts here probably don't believe that.

Regardless, it is a common theme heard here.
Seems conservatives have a perceived fear of "creeping Socialism", it is in most of their literature and talked about openly.

What blogs are you referring to? Link?
I have to say that this is a stretch ........
and please don't use the word "conservative" try right wing or radical right. Conservatives absolutely do not feel this way.

The first place I thought of: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2170758/posts

If it's on the internet, it MUST be true. I haven't peeked in there for a while but this is a good laugh. The other day I bet my buddy that the freepers would say that Obama's flubbing of the original oath and retaking it without a Bible is a way to satisfy his conscious of being a closet Muslim (if he was a Muslim, he wouldn't swear on the Bible and so this was all a ploy). I am still looking through the archives to see if my prediciton is correct.

Actually the lyrics of the song make more sense than the people raking up the issue.

The account name chosen for the original poster says it all. His great-grandpa was probably saying the same thing back when Woody Guthrie wrote the song ("This Land is Your Land") back in 1940. Heaven knows Joe McCarthy had a field day attacking it.

The name was chosen to be ironic, and ol' Joe Mc Carthy hated it huh?

More reason to like it!

Interesting piece on Woodie Guthrie on a NPR article here.

Seems the right has hated this song for a long time. And I never knew.

One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the Steeple,
by the relief office I saw my people.
As they stood hungry,
I stood there wondering if God blessed America for me.

I never knew much about Guthrie except his guitar was cool as hell cuz it said "this machine kills fascists."

Conservatives? Fear?

Well, thats stating the obvious. Conservatives are known for their fear. They are conservative by nature because they fear change. That is a vary strong part of the root of the word conservative.

Conservatives and Liberals are the same. They loathe anything not in their vision. I remember listening to a liberal on the news one day about if the Republicans were elected, old men and women in nursing homes would be thrown into the snowbank. So it goes both ways.

Signs makes me chuckle. I'm sure if I tried to go to a concert and ignore the sign that said "$40 Admission" I'd be tossed out on my ass.

Funny how people are for and against signs depending on how it affects them.

And is ways you may not have imagined. I remember a time, in deep conversation with a friend, she and I walked right past the ticket people because we radiated totally and completely, a sense that we belonged there. We were completely invisible and nobody tried to stop us.

Keep out depends on authority and rank and the assumption and station they create in your own mind and the mind of others. Become the droid that is not being sought.

Ask not what your country can do for you...

As I said, words and acts of solidarity and community are quaint words in the age of American selfishness.
All empire crumble.
