This lab=~90degree.. I bet these rigs have a serious SETI potential.

It's the finals' week. There were two people beside me just a min ago, but I'm the only one here right now.

There are 40 HP x2100 workstations in this computer lab and they stay on 24/7. So at nights after lab closure, it stays good 8-10hrs doing nothing but guzzling away power.

Even though nobody is in here, this place is freaking hot!. It must be 90 degrees. We used the air conditioner during the winter :D

Man if I could harness the power of 40 x2100 P IV 2GHz machine, I'll get so far ahead in SETI.

Didn't some guy got sued before for installing distributed computing clients on computers he was the administrator for?

So install Seti as a service.

But make sure you've got permission

I don't really know how to work these computers unfortunately. You have to log in with your account to do anything and you can't keep something running in your account once you log out.

It's a waste they keep these computer just whirring all night to accumulate dust and use up power even though there's not much I could do.

Get permission from an Admin and have them install Seti as a service.

Go talk to the admins and pitch DC to them, and say "it's such a terrible waste. Here's the information and instructions on how to set it up"

There's perhaps 0.1% chance they'll say ok. haha
If they're ok with it, they'll probably have to get permission from the administration. Remember that McOwen case?

Can you set up the SETI client to only run when no users are logged in? Or how about between specific hours, like from 2 AM to 8 AM when nobody's going to be using it?

Always worth a try.
