This kid at my church just ate a colored M&M and I guess he could have turned it in for 5 grand. He's real little though, so he didn't know. But still!

I'm pretty sure the contest ones have a voucher in the wrapper of the winning package or something else, I remember reading that last time.

ah...found some info...

GROOVY COLORS: Two hundred million packages of M&M'S Chocolate Candies are feeling the artsy groove of the '60s and '70s with hip new packaging. Designed by Michael Rios - noted for his Santana album covers and the latest from Steve Winwood - the packages feature swirling primary colors melding into the candy logo.

In addition, festive, multicolored candies are mixed in with the regular bunch. And if you find a bag that contains all groovy, multicolored M&Ms, don't toss it. You could win one of 50,000 prizes, including a grand prize of $5,000 every summer for life. The prize information is on the inside of the bag.

I didn't actually see it happen - the kid's brother told me. I'll tell him to get the bag and I'll let you guys know if he won or not =).

If it was just one multicolored M&M out of a whole bag, then that would be normal:
In addition, festive, multicolored candies are mixed in with the regular bunch.

But if the whole bag was all multicolored M&M's, then it would be worth $5k.

I think you have to check the inside of the bag. I opened mine and it said you're not a winner. I remember the whole bag was the colored M&Ms.

Yeah, if you can read, you can see quite clearly that the M&M wasn't worth anything unless the whole bag was like that.

Sometimes I like to eat all but the "special" M&M's out of the contest bags, then do the same with 2 or 3other bags. Combine them and you've got a full bag of whichever type the contest is looking for. It's always interesting to see if the janitor will pick up the bag of all-yellow or all-groovy M&M's.
