Just because we want to support women as much as possible when they are victims of domestic violence and rape, we should not swing the pendulum so far that we abandon the principles of innocent until proven guilty. False accusations are a legitimate concern and, as demonstrated by much of the posts in P&N, people seem to love jumping on bandwagons before all of the information is even remotely available. This causes incredible harm to the accused and will ultimately cause harm to the accuser (when the accuser is truthful) because of the eventual backlash that will follow. Here's a pretty good Slate article about why being supportive of one party of a dispute does not mean you immediately throw the other side under a bus:
