I went to replace the stock thermal compund on my ATI X800Xl and when I wiped the core free of compound, it said stuff like ATI X800 and so on. On the bottom of the little core, it said PCI express! This is an AGP card? Was this a mixup in the manufacturing process or is it just the way they make this card? The card runs fine, so I suspect it's just the way they do it.

I could be wrong, but aren't all x800xl's originally made as PCI-E parts, and are later modified with the AGP slot connector and the Rialto bridge to actually turn it into an AGP card?

The bridge chip is on the back of the card by the connector.

Yeah that's what that giant bridge chip is for - it's bridging the PCI-e core for AGP. Your core is fine, and it works (obviously).
