I have a camera, an iPod, a phone, and a PDA. The only thing I consistently carry is my camera. The second most commonly carried item is the iPod.

Luckily, my basic PDA functions are now supported by the phone, and my next phone will have reasonable MP3/AAC support, and a reasonable snapshot camera.

ie. There's a lot of reason for the marrying of these four components. Indeed, that's why phone manufacturers include this in the first place. These features are quite popular.
